Abstract

With the purpose of estimating the biological efficacy of the fungicide Metconazole SL for the handling of the rose roya, it was established a trail in the “Plantas y Flores S.A.” farm, located in Cerro Punta, Chiriqui, at 1,850 meters over the sea level. The trial was conducted during the period 12 of July to 23 of August of 1999. Doses of Metconazole SL were 0.5, 1.0, 1.5 and 2.0 ml pc/l of water compared with a producer control, Triforin 1.0 ml pc/l of water. The experimental design was a completely randomized block design with four repetitions. The experimental unit was a plot of 5.0 x 0.75 m and the effective area was 4.0 m2 (five plants). Biological parameters evaluated weekly were incidence and damage/foliole from where calculated the Area under the Disease Progress Curve (AUDPC). When the means of AUDPC values from number of plants with roya and form the number of folioles with damage were compared, it was detected that the first application of Metconazole SL fungicide was obtained similar AUDPC average values (CV=9.10 and 20.9%, respectively), differing significantly (P>0.05) with the AUDPC values calculated in plots management with Triforin fungicide. It was evident that effect of Metconazole SL on the uredospores (reproductive structure that infect innkeeper plants), suggesting that the low doses of Metconazole SL, 0.5 ml pc/l of water, is the most appropiated in biological (suppression of diseases) and economical terms.
